East Pete Events Committee

The Events Committee Chairperson, Kristen Troop, spoke to Council requesting their approval for a few changes to East Pete Days in 2023. As many have expressed, the carnie vendor last year was pretty bad. The Events Committee was put in a tight spot in March 2022 when they were informed of the 2022 vendor retiring. Many vendors book their shows a year in advance (or longer), so there were very few options that late in the year. That, coupled with a vendor who under-delivered, made things a bit lackluster.

Regardless, the Events Committee has steadily worked to bring back better rides and things to do. According to the Chairperson, the company they wish to contract with is Tons of Fun Shows. Tons of Fun Shows provides rides and such to the Elizabethtown Fair, and are anticipating bringing 15-18 rides to East Pete in 2023.

The catch is that East Pete Days will need to be moved back a week. There is also discussion of expanding the week with more wristband nights. While no official action was necessary, Council gave their blessing to move forward with the Committee's plans. Public Safety

  • EMS: Life Lion reported an average of 9 minutes 15 seconds response time to calls in the borough. I've requested the 911 data from Lancaster County Wide Communications (LCWC) through a RTK to see how effectively we were served in 2022.

  • No representation by Police (NLCRPD), Emergency Services Coordinator (Garber), or Chief Fire Official (Kottmyer).

  • EPFD: Don Schoenberger is no longer Chief of the Department. He will be taking a new position to serve as Deputy Chief for the Hempfield Area Fire Services Commission (radio callsign: Deputy 68). Council expressed their gratitude to the many years and hours Chief Schoenberger has served the citizens of East Pete and surrounding areas. In related news, Council passed a motion to officially recognize the Deputy Chief Fire Official position and authority.

Miscellaneous Items
